About the Author
David Brown practices law in the Monterey, California area, where he has represented both landlords and tenants in hundreds of court cases -- most of which he felt could have been avoided if both sides were more fully informed about landlord/tenant law. Brown, a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Santa Clara Law School, also teaches law at the Monterey College of Law and is the author of Fight Your Ticket in California, Beat Your Ticket and others.
Ralph Warner, a pioneer of the do-it-yourself law movement, founded Nolo with Ed Sherman in 1971. He began publishing do-it-yourself law books after numerous publishers rejected them. Warner holds a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley and an undergraduate degree from Princeton.
Janet Portman specializes in residential and commercial landlord/tenant law. She is the author or coauthor of�Every Landlord's Legal Guide,�Every Tenant's Legal Guide,�Renters' Rights, Leases & Rental Agreements,�The California Landlord's Law Book: Rights and Responsibilities and�others. Portman received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stanford University and a law degree from Santa Clara University. Before joining Nolo in 1994, she practiced law as a public defender.

A wonderful book. Very detailed. Very well written Very honest. Very helpful. Very mind opening. Very informative. It will give you a lot of confidence whether you are an attorney, property owner, property manager, a tenant, or just someone curious. I definitely recommend it.

Worth every penny!

Worth every penny! Had to evict a tennat, had all the right forms for the original contract. Helped know the process, was able to have them out in 43 days! CA eviction process is a minefield of mistakes if you don't know what you are doing.

Very Informative

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in becoming a landlord. It can easily be used by tenants as well, but is written from the landlords perspective.
