Fit for purpose but not likely to inspire

The writing, explanations etc are clear and there are plenty of colorful diagrams. Each page or double page covers a topic from the Camb igcse curriculum and I assume that the whole book maps closely to that curriculum, which is likely what many students sitting that exam will want. The downside is the lack of an obvious narrative running thru the book; it could almost have been written by a computer. At about 300 pages it (the curriculum and the book) may contain as much detail as is reasonable at this level but for most topics I was left with unanswered questions. To solve these issues you probably have to go to the first year University texts at around 1000 pages and almost as many dollars. Alternatively I have found that the biology books aimed at GCSE curricula are more engaging/interesting that those aimed at IGCSE but the IGCSE books generally have more meaty content.
