Brooke writes complex, character-driven stories about kismet, reunited lovers, first love, and the kind of romance that we should all have the chance at finding. She prefers her stories laced with some humor just for fun, and enough drama to keep her readers flipping the pages, and begging for more. Unconventional, sweet, and packed with LOL moments!
By Rhianna Walker
Lexie Baump is thirty, successful, and after an epic indiscretion... pregnant. After a messy divorce she pulled herself up by the boot straps and started her catering company, Eats & Sweets, with her best frenemy, Marisol. Getting pregnant with no baby-daddy is a complication she really doesn't need. But this might be her one chance at motherhood and with the support of her cousin, Candace, she's determined to embrace it. First step, seeing her new obstetrician.
Dr. Fletcher Haybee, however, turns out to be everything Lexie could want in a guy. He's kind and quirky... and drop-dead gorgeous. With her mom trying to force a husband on her at every turn, morning sickness that lasts all day, and her busy catering schedule, it's only natural that she'd pretend no interest when Marisol decides she wants Fletcher. But the spark between them won't be denied as things grow ever more complicated right alongside her protruding baby bump.
It's no secret that I might just be Brooke Moss' number one fan. She's the author who pulled me from the paranormal shelves into more contemporary waters with her humorous and heartfelt, THE WHAT-IF GUY. Since then I've come to love her way of making people, not just characters, come to life on each page. They're funny and geeky, sexy and somber, thrust into situations that are relatable and emotional. And she's done it again with BABY & BUMP.
If you've ever had a surprise pregnancy you'll immediately empathize with Lexie. That's one of those really emotionally tumultuous things that blends fear and joy and anger and excitement into one big indescribable mess and I was feeling it right alongside Lexie. Quirky and responsible, it seems like a mistake she just wouldn't make and the mystery of just who the baby's father is and why she doesn't want to tell anyone is a nail-biting thread you'll want to unwind. In contrast, Fletcher is such an open book. I melted to mush right away with his Southern charm and how he's raising his daughter alone. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in finding a good dad to be one of the sexiest things on Earth.
The supporting cast is where a lot of the funnies come in and I just felt at home with them. Lexie's BFF cousin and her husband are adorable. Patsy, her mom, both annoys and yet is endearing in her own odd way. Her brothers and sister-in-law provide an added depth that makes the story strong. Then there's Marisol. I can't resist referring to her as the frenemy because she does and says things that if she were my friend I'd probably lose my cool over. I disliked her intensely and that eventually grew into hate. But then Moss did something... showed a side of Marisol that was unexpected and gave her some depth that I was anticipating. It made me cry and realize that I had been judging her only on what I was 'seeing' and that maybe there was so much more to her than I knew.
While it's definitely a romance, BABY & BUMP, is very much about the relationships that define us as family, specifically as parents. I just loved it. I laughed and cried and had to resist the urge to skip to the end. If you love quirky characters, single parent romances, lots of humor, and a heartfelt happy ending you have to read this book!

OK but
By Gatorfan
I enjoyed most of the book. I do agree with the other reviewer that found Marisol annoying. The heroine winds up pregnant after a one night stand with her ex-husband. I know that is possibly even though it is hard to imagine knowing most exes. The hero is the OB/GYN she goes to, to confirm her pregnancy.
He is a hunk with a 9 year old daughter and a huge dog. A great guy in every sense of the word. Marisol, the town slut with no thought for anyone but herself. A very selfish, self-centered female that calls herself a friend of the heroine.
She attends an appointment with the heroine and immediately makes a big play for the doctor, asking him out, etc. Naturally, being a male he is taken in by her boobs. I will give her this bit of credit, she asks the heroine if she is interested in him and she says no. In her defense, here she is pregnant, no one knows the father, and she is not the hottest candidate for date material in the town. So interested or not, how much good is it going to do for her.
So Marisol goes for him. She calls to arrange all the dates, she plans the man's part in all actions. She doesn't like his "kid" and wants to get rid of her. She can't stand the dog and wants him to get rid of it. In fact, the only thing she really likes about him is the fact that he is a doctor and I suppose has a high earning potential. But she decides that maybe it is time to settle down, him being a doctor and all. He has expressed NO interest in her but this is not to be worried about. She wants him, she will get him. Don't you just love her?????
All of this was okay. It was near the end of the book that I really got annoyed. Marisol is the town slut, dates and sleeps with several guys a week and is proud of it. She goes thru men like water in a sieve. BUT, she has decided the doctor is going to marry HER, so therefore she owns him and all rights to him. Even tho her two best friends, who are also good friends with the doctor, knows it is never going to happen.
Now, get this. Our heroine has met the man to beat all men. He is in love with her, pregnant with another man's child, all the issues that come with being pregnant, a crazy mother, etc. but she feels guilty because he doesn't love her best friend and she did kiss him while they were together (which would have ended if Marisol hand not kept calling him). Ok, so she has this guy to beat all guys, he loves her beyond reason, this could be the one for a lifetime and she has decided that her friend is more important. REALLY, R U kidding me? I wonder if the situation had been reversed and he had picked his best drinking buddy over her if we would have been ok with that??? I don't think so. I thought way too much power was given Marisol in this instance.
Ok, now fast forward and all is forgiven in all camps and the heroine is going after the hero. His heart is broken, he has made ever effort to get in touch with her, etc. and she has decided to wait a week, a frigging week, to call him. She wants to look better. Now she is having all these thoughts a few weeks after major surgery to have this baby. Does she really think she is going to look better in a month? Only in Hollywood, Missy, only in Hollywood. But she wants to be slim, beautiful, etc. You are not forgetting this is an OB DOCTOR, he has seen any number of pregnant/delivered women, he knows what is normal, he knows what they look like and how they feel. This was a little beyond stupid to me. I know hormones play a part in pregnancy but the average person doesn't go totally stupid. I enjoyed the first 3/4 of the book but nearing the end I was really getting annoyed and fast forwarded thru some of the parts. I just wanted it to end. I would recommend it. I don't think most folks will get as involved as I did in wanting to give our new mother a good whack on the head. So read, and you decide.

Falling in love with your OBGYN = Fun + Awkward story!
By Courtney~MustReadBooksOrDie
I reviewed this book at MustReadBooksOrDie with my amazing friend Shelley. We like to talk to each other :D.
Shel: Well, Courtney we've read several chick lit novels over the last few days and I think this is probably one of my favorite ones we've read. It was really entertaining and sweet.
Court: Most definitely. I really enjoyed it, and was wondering how in the world the MC was going to pull this one off...since the blurb says her BFF is the one currently dating the good doctor....girl code violation commences---uh oh!
Shel: This novel follows the story of Lexie a successful caterer, divorcee, and soon to be single mother who refuses to tell anyone who the baby's daddy is (much to the frustration and fury of her friends and family). Court: I was glad she held out as long as she did! You'd have thought they were actually going to die by not knowing, and in the end I was surprised to find out who it was.
Shel: When her cousin and best friend, Candace, takes her to see Dr. Fletcher Haybee an OB (and friend of Candace and Brian), the sparks fly between Lex and Fletcher. That was a great scene, Lexie's thoughts and reactions are giggle inducing.
Court: I would be mortified...which is why I choose to see a female gyno...even married I couldn't handle a hot doctor all up in my lady business...anyways, more of Lexie's thoughts are so dang funny...I especially remember her comparisons to the commercials of people finding out they're pregnant, and her own experience with this. Ladies, I'm sure you can relate a bit to that one...!
Shel: Then Lexie's business partner, other best friend, and man-eater, Marisol, joins her on her next appointment--and the love triangle begins. This is where things get a little hard to watch. Lexie has a nice little crush going on Fletcher but understandably downplays them.Who would think that a hot single doctor would actually want to be involved with a knocked up single woman? So, Lexie pretends to have no interest in Fletcher which allows Marisol to turn on the charm and basically ask Fletcher out, right in the exam room--with poor Lexie watching.
Court: For the record, I was beginning to like Marisol less and less and this scene really sealed the deal on that one. The things that she said and did proved over and over what a frenemy she was....she only went to the appointment to see how hot Fletch was..not to support her friend who is experiencing this alone..besties...NO! Girl code violation #2!
Shel: As Lexie's pregnancy progresses she sees Fletcher more and more--some scheduled and some purely accidental. The accidental run ins between Lex and Fletch are sweet and funny and sometimes cringe-worthy--it's so obvious to everyone but the people involved that they should be together (not Marisol and Fletch). Fletch obviously has feelings for Lexi and she loves his daughter (previous marriage), his dog, and his t-shirts. Sigh. They just belong together.
Court: Right!!! It was so obvious to everyone what they both wanted....but he drug his feet like there was no tomorrow. I still was majorly disliking Marisol because again you would have thought the world was ending because this great guy has a 9 year old kid. She didn't realize how much influence his little girl's opinion would have and didn't try very hard AT ALL to be nice to her.
Shel: Soon Lex and Fletch begin to be less successful in denying their feelings, the baby's impending birth also nears and then drama ensues. There are some more cringe-worthy scenes where Marisol is rightfully pissed, Lexie has a meltdown, and a roomful of witnesses. Luckily friends and family step in to bring reason to the whole messed up situation and we make it to our happy ending.
Court: The ending brought my feelings for Marisol and Lexie's relationship full circle. They finally put their big girl panties on and duked--i mean talked it out. So to make my official stance...I ended up liking Marisol. You will just probably want to slap her a lot along the way!
Shel: This review would not be complete if we skipped over Lexie's nutso mom. She nearly steals every scene she's in --so funny. She's like many moms I know--she only wants the best for her children but she sometimes has strange, funny, and just WRONG ways of showing it sometimes. Lexie's mom provides lots of comedy and annoyance with her relationship with Pastor Irm, her judgmental ways, and the cabbage patch dolls.
Court: Hahahaha, yes..her frightening cabbage patch doll collection with birth certificates, names... + middle names...and she knows all of this information on every one! Scary *shudders*...she was crazy in her stance on finding Lexie a man to take care of her in her *condition*. I was in awe of how well Lexie stood up for herself while still respecting her mother but that dang woman wouldn't listen. Sure, she can wish that her daughter hadn't gotten pregnant single, but since it's a wee bit too late, she should've wised up a lot sooner. So many real scenarios, with an awesome funny cast of characters made for a really, really enjoyable story!
