Modern Hebrew, Ivrit Hayah

This book is written in a style that makes learning Hebrew easy. The material, topics, the vocabulary and the exercises are well organized. It also gives an excellent introduction to the Hebrew culture, mentality and sense of humor. Also it introduces the reader to the attitude of the language. Even though Hebrew is a very difficult language this book does not frustrate the learner. It is one of the best linguistical books I've ever studied. Hebrew is my fourth language and while learning the other 3 languages I was never able to learn the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in such a short time. After just the first two lessons I was able to construct a complete sentence. I have never been able to do this while studying other languages. The topics are very interesting and intriguing and causes me to want to study the lesson to the very end. The layout of the lesson is great.

Great Beginning Text

I considered about 8 options before choosing Blumberg as our "new" text. It doesn't shy away from tackling the complex verb system. It nibbles away at it systematically, never dumping too much information at one time. The pacing is great. The exercises are well designed. It is billed as "modern" Hebrew, but the influence of Ancient Hebrew is quite evident. It teaches an archaic and pedantic style of Hebrew. I tell the students we are learning to "speak like angels, not like people." Vowel pointing is used throughout. The text and pictures are dated. It would be nice if audio materials were available with native speakers. The book assumes that the student knows the Hebrew alef-bet, but then starts at "square one." It's not perfect, but it's far and away my choice for a beginning test.

I totally agree! I got this book from the library and Hebrew is made a lot easier than you might think. I'm a high school junior and am only in Spanish 3 so I can't say I'm an expert at learning languages, but this book makes it so much easier than any of my spanish classes ever did! The only thing the book expects from you is that you already have a knowledge of the hebrew alphabet and vowels. If you can read that smoothly, I promise you that you will have no problems with this book!

Francesco Malatesta, born in 1990, is a web developer and a curious enthusiast from Vasto, a wonderful city on the Italian eastern coast. Good book on eloquent

This book is a good introduction to Eloquent. The author does decent job of filling in the gaps of the Laravel documentation. I did find a couple of items for an errata but nothing major and all easy to see what was meant. The English phrasing used did make me smile a few times but the author's English is better than my Italian (by orders of magnitude) so I'm not throwing stones.

Greate book on Laravel`s ORM: Eloquent

This is a good book!
It`s easy to read, good examples to help you understand the features and concepts of Eloquent. I am used to write my SQL query by hand, so this ORM-thing is a transition, but this book made me enjoy letting go of the control. It`s nice to not have SQL in my PHP code... Lots of good overviews in lists and tables makes it easy grasp the information. All my questions and skepticism where met and put to ease (advanced where-clauses, table joining, delete without really deleting (soft delete), query scopes (because you don`t want to repeat yourself, but a lot of queries will have the same constraints, and sometimes these can be advanced), conversion to array and JSON and so one. The book is awesome, and so is Eloquent!

I really enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this book. It is a deep dive into Laravel's Eloquent ORM. It takes you through every aspect of Eloquent and even shows how to use Eloquent on it own outside of Laravel. I feel very confident using Eloquent after reading this book, I was a little unclear on how relationships worked even after reading Laravel's API documentation... this book cleared up any doubts. Another great thing about this book is it takes a look at Collections which are very powerful. I would like to see this author write another book exploring the whole Laravel framework in depth.

About the Author
Charles Roth is Professor Emeritus in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, where he taught Digital Design for more than four decades. Lizy John is the B. N. Gafford Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. John has been teaching and conducting research in computer architecture and digital systems design for almost two decades. She has coauthored DIGITAL SYSTEMS DESIGN USING VHDL and DIGITAL SYSTEMS DESIGN USING VERILOG and has edited several successful books on computer performance evaluation and workload characterization. She is an IEEE Fellow.

Great Philosophy textbook

This book is interesting! I have honestly enjoyed reading it for my Philosophy class and I have learned so much! I am on Spring break right now, so this review is not extremely extensive, sorry. But I definitely recommend this textbook.

About the Author

Roberta Ness is an internationally renowned physician-scientist and author of over 300 scientific papers and books. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine National Academies of Science, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology, and a frequent advisor to the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and Centers for Disease Control. She is a past President of the American College of Epidemiology and President of the American Epidemiology Society. Her many awards and honors include a White House appointment to the Board of the Mickey Leland Center as well as receipt of the Snow Award, the most prestigious lifetime achievement award in her profession, presented by the American Public Health Association. She is Dean of the University of Texas School of Public Health and the University of Texas-Houston Vice President for Innovation and author of Innovation Generation: How to Produce Creative and Useful Scientific Ideas and Creativity in the Sciences.

I've always been interested in what inspires the great mental leaps that shape the world around us. Roberta Ness does a great job of deconstructing the process by which a fortunate few deduced something new about reality. I'd recommend this book for anyone looking for a reasonable, understandable read.

a must-read for anyone seeking to cultivate creative thought through creativity training

Genius Unmasked is the culmination of what I imagine to be an enormous amount of research into the lives and careers of both well-known (e.g., Rutherford, Curie, Einstein) and lesser-known innovators (e.g., Paul Baran, Arthur Hertig, JerryMorris) who have made outstanding contributions to Western thought. Like a good detective, Ness scours the historical literature to uncover the thought processes going through the minds of these remarkable individuals. She rejects the notion that genius is an enigmatic result of divine intervention or random luck, but rather a knowable, systematic use of tools within the scientific genius' toolbox. In each chapter she demonstrates how `radical innovators' used these tools and, in the final chapter, shows how ordinary `students of innovation' can use the same tools to make frame-shifting contributions within their own careers. Along with Innovation Generation: How to Produce Creative and Useful Scientific Ideas, Genius Unmasked is a must-read for anyone seeking to cultivate creative thought through creativity training.

"Genius Unmasked" is a lovely book. It lines out the factors contributing to creativity in a clear, direct, and enjoyable way, alternating between practical examples and theoretical connections, and telling some great stories I'd never heard before. It has moved me for the first time from being intimidated by the giants of history, to feeling inspired by them and by my own possibilities!
